I’ve grown up with British labs my whole life. Im looking at getting my first dog on my own and am torn between a British lab or a Boykin. Anybody got an argument to help me decide?

I live in WV. In the 70's grouse were plentiful. 4 daily bag limit. Never did we not jump at least one bird. Now if I see 1 a month I'm lucky. I don't shoot 90% of time. I love taking pictures when they're sitting up on a long. Still waiting to get video of one drumming. What I don't understand is why the bag limit is still 4. Anyone else experiencing the same bad luck. I've heard to many old growth forest to no habitat to coyotes 😢

I grew up hunting behind field trail dogs that came from a dog named Long Gone Sam? Same bloodline?

These dogs are so smart once they figure out their smarter than their owners that's when the owners are in trouble

Was that tractor a John Deere? 😁 So, why are you saying "Whoa" when your dog is already pointing? You just taught her that AFTER she stops and then starts to move, that's called, "whoa".

I have owned golden retriever, english setter but my boykin spaniel is the best. Best dog I have ever owned.

Can I use these ideas on training my 4 yrs old gun dog or is it too old to be trained? He's very independent now and hunts too far away from me. I'd appreciate to get advice from you. As I live in Europe I can't come to your site for training, alas.

When I started "Whoa" training off lead in the field, if he didn't stop on command, I picked him up and carried him back to the exact spot he was at when I gave the command. He picked up "Whoa" training quicker then I thought he would. It was always in our daily routine and morning walks through out the year. Hunting on public preserves and watching so many hunters who have no control over their dogs and never bothered to train their dogs this most important command makes me laugh. Lots of yelling and cussing and whistle blowing at dogs that haven't a clue because of owner laziness.

Soft spaniel. I dont understand why they put electric collar on spaniel when they dont do pointing. It doesnt make sense to me..

How many yards do you let the dogs hunt out from you?
